PRP AIRPORT POLICE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES OPEN HOUSE & BBQ

Peel Regional Police Airport Division’s annual Airport Police and Emergency Services Open House and BBQ was a tremendous success this year. Held on May 6th, it made more than $2650 in food sales and guests were estimated at about 600 attendees.  Equipment and personnel from all branches of PRP, as well as GTAA Emergency Services and other departments as well as RCMP, Canada Border Services, Falcon Environmental and other Pearson-based agencies also had their personnel and equipment on display.  Department of National Defence also contributed an interesting flight safety systems display.  The highlight of the event for the aviation enthusiasts was the arrival of an ornge air ambulance Augusta Westland AW139 helicopter which landed on the south side of Convair Drive for static display.  It had to depart on a callout shortly after arriving, but was replaced by another one which arrived within half an hour.  It was a perfect day for the event with bright sun and a gentle breeze, contributing to the excellent attendance (weather had hampered the event in previous years).  PRP donated $5000 to Air Canada’s Dreams Take Flight charity, as well as outfitting four lucky Dreams Take Flight participants with brand new bicycles and new summer clothes for their trip to Disneyworld, which took place on an Air Canada A330 the next day.  Sharon Dale of PRP Court Services was the lucky winner of $259.50 in the 50/50 draw. She donated $100.00 of her winnings back in support of Dreams Take Flight. Thanks to YYZAW members Andy Cline, Brian Dunn, Mark Fisher, Gus Gorujo, John Hill, Rob MacNeil, Cyrus Patel, and Joanne Woodbridge, who took time out of their busy schedules to man the table and explain the program to people, and Andy and Gus for supplying photographs.
