YYZ Airport Watch gets special view of Boeing 787 Dreamliner's arrival in Toronto

The first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to visit a major Canadian City touched down at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport (CYYZ) on March 1st, 2012. The third Dreamliner built, (c/n 40692 / 3) N787BX arrived to crowds of excited aviation enthusiasts and airport employees when it arrived from Boeing Field in Seattle using callsign 'Boeing 787'. The Toronto visit is part of Boeing’s worldwide Dream Tour which is the marketing tour for it’s newest commercial aircraft. The Toronto visit is largely for the benefit of Air Canada who is hosting the tours in it’s hangar. The visit also coincides with the 75th Anniversary of Air Canada, and the event will be the launch of the celebrations. The Toronto event also features the airline’s heritage aircraft, Lockheed 10A CF-TCC, which was the carrier’s first aircraft type when it started operations as Trans Canada Airlines in 1937. The Dreamliner's arrival drew airport employees from all corners of Pearson, and gave them an opportunity to kick the tires of Boeing’s graceful new 787.

26 lucky YYZ Airport Watch members were privileged to be treated to an exclusive airside bus tour photo-op or the 787 arrival by our partners at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. GTAA’s efforts were as special thanks for the vigilance and time spent patrolling the perimeter of Pearson International Airport and it’s approaches by YYZAW while we pursue our hobbies of aircraft spotting and photography. The tour allowed us to catch the aircraft on final approach and the historic moment of the Dreamliner touching down for the first time at YYZ. We had a few minutes right beside it on the ramp, and did a group photo beside the TCA L10A Electra. The only thing that could have been better was the weather, but the sun did make a brief appearance for a static photo.

YYZ Airport Watch sincerely thanks Russ Cruikshank, GTAA’s Community Engagement Officer, with the Corporate Affairs and Communications department and the members of his office who helped escort us, as well as Chris the bus driver. Thanks to everyone at GTAA headquarters that helped to make this happen on such short notice.
